About Pittsburgh Community Action
Fifteen years of fighting hunger and building community in Pittsburgh.
Our Story
From a church basement to a citywide mission
Pittsburgh Community Action was founded in 2010 by a group of Pittsburgh neighbors who saw families struggling to put food on the table. What started as a small food pantry in a church basement has grown into a full-service community organization serving thousands of families across Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
Today, PCA runs five programs: a food pantry, a clothing closet, an after-school program for kids, a job training and workforce prep program, and community events including holiday meals. Everything we do is built on one belief: nobody in Pittsburgh should go hungry, and everybody deserves a chance at a better future.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN #47-2910553). Your donations are tax-deductible. We are proud to be part of Pittsburgh's community action network, alongside organizations like Pittsburgh Community Services Inc. and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Fifteen years. Twelve thousand families. A quarter-million meals. And we're just getting started.

Leadership
A Message from Karen Whitfield, Executive Director
When we started PCA in 2010, we had one shelf of canned goods and a lot of hope. Today, we serve over a thousand families a month, and we're just getting started.
Every number on this page is a person. Every meal is a family that didn't go to bed hungry. Every volunteer hour is a neighbor showing up for a neighbor. That's what community action looks like.
Thank you for being here. Whether you donate, volunteer, partner, or just spread the word - you are part of this.
